03 / ABOUT FOXGLOWPHIL / THE THINKING BEHIND IT

ABOUT
FOXGLOW.

Phil’s own narration is coming after the pacing review.

Read at your own pace.

Foxglow didn’t start with a moodboard.

It started years ago with a kid from Nottingham soaking up absolutely everything around him.

Notts County. School holidays spent riding around in my dad’s lorry. Raleigh Burners. Graffiti. Hip hop. Gangsta rap. Breakdancing on sheets of lino in the local shopping arcade.

Greek architecture. Technical drawing. Rollercoasters. Ten-pin bowling — which somehow ended up with me playing for England.

Then came photography, graphic design, film, technology and a lifelong habit of looking at ordinary things and wondering how they could be made a little more interesting.

Music has always been a massive part of it too. George Michael. 80s Madonna. Nirvana. Oasis. Hip hop. And an entirely unreasonable amount of 80s music.

Somewhere along the way, all those influences started mixing together.

The geometry of technical drawing.

The rhythm and attitude of graffiti and hip hop.

The movement of BMXs and rollercoasters.

The scale and structure of architecture.

The atmosphere and storytelling of photography.

The problem-solving side of technology.

And, increasingly, the textures, shapes and quiet weirdness of trees and woodland.

That mixture is probably the best explanation of how I work.

I like clean design, but I don’t like boring design.

I like things to function properly, but I also like the occasional moment that makes someone stop and think, “What the hell was that?”

I like nostalgia, but I’m not interested in simply recreating the past.

And I like technology most when it helps an idea feel more human, playful or unexpected.

Foxglow is where all of that ends up.

Photography. Film. Branding. Motion. Design. Interactive ideas. Small businesses. Creative experiments. Things that probably seemed simpler when I first thought of them.

There are also cats.

Quite a lot of cats.

THE THING I GET ASKED MOST

Why the name Foxglow?

The fox has long represented curiosity, adaptability and independence. A creature equally comfortable moving quietly through the natural world or appearing unexpectedly at the edge of the city.

And glow?

Glow is warmth. Discovery. The small pool of light that pulls your attention through darkness. A visual metaphor for ideas appearing where you least expect them.

So Foxglow represents the meeting point between instinct and imagination. Nature and technology. Stillness and movement. Familiarity and surprise.

A creative philosophy built around curiosity, craft and finding light in unexpected places.

...

Nah.

AI chose it for me.

HANDMADE CHARACTERS / CROCHET / CREATIVE CHAOS

Nordstrom Snuggle Co.

Handmade characters. Questionable behaviour.

Nordstrom Snuggle Co. is the wonderfully playful world of Lauren and her handmade crochet creations — full of colour, character and the kind of little faces that somehow develop personalities of their own.

From Ducky and Gerry to Sid Shark and Dino the BurgerSaurus, every creation feels slightly mischievous, completely individual and unmistakably handmade.

For this Foxglow Creator Spotlight, we wanted the characters to do more than sit politely in a gallery.

So naturally, they escaped.
